Niji Playa: Niji Bordeaux's annual summer beach party

Each year, Niji Bordeaux organises a summer party at the beach, called Niji Playa. The 2022 edition took place in Arcachon, at Plage du Pereire, at sunset. A moment for all coworkers to enjoy the waves and the sand, while spending quality time watching the sun set over the bay. As an event photographer based in Bordeaux, I documented this summer evening — silhouettes against the horizon, relaxed exchanges on the beach, the unique atmosphere of a corporate event outside the office walls.

This kind of assignment brings together two complementary skills: discreet documentary photography, to capture the real atmosphere and spontaneous moments as they happen; and corporate portrait photography, to give each attendee a professional, polished headshot they can actually use. The result is a cohesive set of images that tells a story — the story of a company that invests in its people.

Corporate portraits and documentary coverage: two approaches, one coherent story

At Niji Playa 2022, I worked particularly carefully on team portraits, making use of the golden sunset light on Plage du Pereire. Each portrait is treated with the same attention as a studio shoot: precise framing, focused attention on expression, gaze and body language. Images that work equally well in black and white for a timeless editorial feel, or in full colour for digital channels.

The documentary side of the work plays out in between the planned moments: groups forming by the water, coworkers enjoying the waves and the sand, moments of camaraderie facing the sunset. These are often where the best corporate event photos live — the ones that radiate genuine warmth and make people want to be part of the company.
